so my 16 y.o son likes to stay out with his friend playing music and video games until 2am, 3am.
we're staying in Los Angeles in a two bedroom apartment. my 18 y.o. daughter has one room, my son has the second bedroom, and me... i have the air mattress in the living room. at least it’s a queen sized.
i'm a light sleeper. and my mattress is right by the entrance door.
so i get woken up whenever my son comes in, opening the door (clink clunk clunk) goes to his room, then to the bathroom. he goes back and forth, it's him just fiddling around for an hour.
while he does this i doze... bathing in frustration… too tired to get up and say something, and hoping it will just stop. but it doesn’t. (feels like some deep observation of life)
i struggle to go back to sleep. damn tired. still, should i:
a) try to get him to change his habits
b) buy earplugs
hmm. where else am I fighting a losing battle of what “should be” vs a downhill solution??? (trying to get myself to write again! brute force ain’t working)
i try, oh i try to not let pride or ego get in the way of the simpler, effective solution that doesn't require other people to change. and once in awhile i’m even successful.
🥱
air
ps: i keep you posted and let you know it goes
i just don’t want to get out of bed
Your son was me once. I’d let him know its effect on you and ask him if he has any win-win suggestions so he can continue and you can sleep. Earplugs seems like an easy solution, but this conversation may bear greater fruit.
I have a 15 year old son and I know what you are dealing with! I let him use my studio, covered with sound block foam and a two doors.
