creating content while juggling life 'n' stuff

muddling my way through, like everyone else

don’t mind me, i have a cute barnacle with me today.

being a dad of 9 kids, the same old s.h.i.t never ends.

like you, i have to juggle work and other vital stuff. i have kids (including teenagers); you might have a sick relative, anxiety, a side passion or hustle, whatevah…

and - i want & need to create content.

it’s tough. it’s always been tough, just that sometimes i’ve found better content systems that work for me, and sometimes i haven’t. and what worked in 2011 or 2016 or 2021 doesn’t work now…

ok everyone should create content. like you gotta eat vegetables, meditate and drink more coffee. [ok so i threw that last one in there…]

and the world is moving to a place where leaders will NEED to share themselves online, to stand out + build trust and loyalty with recruits, teams and customers.

back to creating content while juggling …from my experience, the biggest challenge in creating is not putting in the time. (it’s possible to create and post bits in seconds.)

it’s the inner resistance…plus the energy required to overcome it.

brute force does NOT work for me. i need a system that supports me, not something i fight. downhill, not uphill.

i’ve been redesigning my content system for months to align more with my values and lifestyle vs. what worked in the past. what’s working better now…

  • less writing / longform writing

  • more talking while walking (into an audio app or taking a video)

  • less creation (and separation) of ‘business content’, mixing in more ‘the juggle’ (and integration of money/personal) as content

  • having a buddy help with accountability, brainstorming, editing, posting

  • honing in on the ideas or feelings i WANT to share, that give me energy (vs what i feel obligated to write about, which drains me).

like getting in shape, there’s no magic besides sticking to it and adapting.

lately i’ve been trying out video formats -

from using zoom (see above) where i edit and pick out golden nuggets and moments - what do you think?

or tiktokswe can a learn a thing to from gen z, who are more open and out there online. they don’t see being vulnerable as a weakness, but acceptance of being a human.

you can watch as i recreate myself here. now - if you create something online that has some of your style, tag me so i can see what you’re up to, too!

ps: next week, in answer to some inbound questions, i share some different structures i’ve used to advise/coach companies over the past decade+, including how i’m recreating that too now.
